I
wouldn't call myself a railway enthusiast, but steam engines
always make good photographic subjects, though this shot could
do with some smoke to complete the picture!
It
was taken on the famous Settle-Carlisle line at Aisgill.
Some years ago, this line seemed destined for closure, largely
due to remedial works which were necessary to many of the viaducts
and tunnels. Thankfully, the work was carried out, and old stations
were reopened, and the line is now very popular with walkers
and tourists.
The
engine in the photo is the Canadian Pacific, a Merchant Navy
class engine from the Southern Region.
